iEDM Radio Episode 52 - APAX
Thursday May 14, 2015
Thursday May 14, 2015
What do you get when you mash up a truly unique sound, futuristic style, dreams of interstellar domination and L’Oreal quality hair...?
You guessed it... Chewbacca.
Similarly, Melbourne’s production/DJ duo APAX are ‘all that’ – and according to their pal Chewy
who had this to add –
“ruuuuurhhrguguguhr” (translation) “they’re all that and more”.
In just over one short year, APAX (comprising Cameron Woodard & Mitch Kurz), have managed to create a very noticeable swell all over the world with their plethora of stunning originals and their breakout song “Fly Away”, which went viral racking up 500,000 plays and counting.
Since then, their summer anthem “Saxophon” (Onelove) saw the boys make a huge splash onto radio waves and nightclubs Australia wide, as they skyrocketed to #11 in the Aria Club Charts (Australia) which they rode for an epic 8 weeks.
The APAX swell continued to build with the addition of residencies at Melbourne’s top venues including Billboard, Crown Casino and Bond Bar, amongst a jam-packed schedule of gigs Australia wide, as well as the release of what would be their first globally sought after records...
Enter the totally unique and genre defining releases “Twang” and “Hoedown” (Brooklyn Fire).
Branded by the top dogs themselves as “Hillbilly House” and “Backwards Bounce”, these two records mash up Melbourne’s iconic Bounce sound with APAX’s diverse music knowledge with country & western, to create a one-of-a-kind sound, catching the ears and interest of the worlds biggest DJs and audience.
Grab your long board. This wave is no longer just a swell.

iEDM Radio Episode 47: Everybody Jump! Vinai Exclusive
Sunday Apr 12, 2015
Sunday Apr 12, 2015
Born in Brescia the two brothers Alessandro (1990) and Andrea (1994) initially work on their own music. In 2011 they join forces and make their way into the studio, two years later resulting in their signing with Time Records to release the bomb track ‘Hands Up’ which receives support from top international artists like Tiësto, Showtek, DVBBS, MAKJ, Nari & Milani, Deorro, Quintino, Deniz Koyu and Danny Avila. What follows is their remix for Don Diablo, the Axtone release called ‘Starlight’ which is played by DJs like Sander Van Doorn, Pete Tong, MAKJ & La Fuente.
After a series of releases and collabs, VINAI joins world renowned Dutch label Spinnin’ Records in 2014 and quickly comes up with its greatest hit up till then, the collab with Canadian duo DVBBS titled ‘RAVEOLOGY’. Originally surfacing as a ‘track ID’ the song generates a huge amount of hype before being revealed a DVBBS and VINAI production.
From then, ‘RAVEOLOGY’ grows into a solid anthem for the worldwide dance generation, getting huge feedback from the world’s biggest DJs including Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Hardwell, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Diplo, Showtek, W&W, Sander Van Doorn, R3hab, NERVO, Ummet Ozcan and many more. The full version of ‘RAVEOLOGY’ is premiered on Billboard, the world’s biggest music website and in less than one week reaches #1 of the main Beatport chart.
After this massive club hit, VINAI releases ‘Bounce Generation’ together with TJR. It’s the most played track during WMC and Ultra Music festival and reaches the number 1 position on Beatport after five days from release, keeping that spot for 14 days in a row! Due to a lot of radio support and promotion, ‘Bounce Generation’ exposes VINAI all over the world.
So, 2014 is the year VINAI turns into a global festival favourite. During the summer the brothers release ‘How We Party’ together with Dutch DJ R3hab, premiered live during Tomorrowland when VINAI joins R3hab on the mainstage performing a back2back DJ set. Six days after release ‘How We Party’ reaches the number 1 position on Beatport, completing an incredible record: three number 1 spots on Beatport in less than eight months.
Be sure, VINAI is on its way. Protagonists of an Italian wave of big room house, gaining more strength by day, the brothers make their DJ Mag Top 100 debut by the end of 2014. After that it’s their remix of the R3hab & Trevor Guthrie hit ‘Soundwave’ that gathers attention. As if they want to finish the year in style, the future only promising more to come.

As a long time underground DJ/producer, Los Angeles based Heat Maxwell began making his way into the spotlight as an assisting engineer at the Miami Mau5hax project along side Deadmau5, Feed Me, Steve Duda, Kill the Noise and Foreign Beggars. Soon after, Heat Maxwell's debut track "Uprising" was released as part of the first "We are Friends" compilation on Mau5trap and was recognized as one of Beatport's top 10 summer secret weapons. His music is dark and melodic with a wide range of influences from 80s metal to Baroque and Classical, which is apparent through his complex electro style. Having already received support from Tommy Trash, Benny Benassi, Tom Swoon and others, it's safe to say Heat Maxwell will be a rising artist to keep your eye on.

iEDM Radio Episode 43: Dark Beats Proxy Guest Mix
Sunday Mar 08, 2015
Sunday Mar 08, 2015
From the ashes of the Soviet empire, from the flames of history, rises PROXY. Post 9/11 rave vibes cloaked in Muscovite angst. A line drawn in smoking rubble along the border dividing East and West, Stüssy and Spetsnaz. 1997. The Year of Tar and Horses. The Prodigy plays Red Square in Moscow. Hundreds of thousands of people attend the show, but only one is truly changed. By the crushing sound. By people absolutely losing their shit to synths and sustained aggression. The experience causes PROXY to question the quality and purpose of Russian “electrica” acts like Nu-Lag Xpressions and Sweatislav. There was simply no scene from which to emerge. “Whatever a fool does, he does it wrong. A poor dancer is impeded even by his own balls,” he recalls.
In a decade’s time, PROXY would be remixing Prodigy and opening for them on a massive tour of Russia. 2004. PROXY grows interested in the increasingly punishing sounds of the electro scene, as he hears Tiga sing “Hey You Little Children of Glasnost” at the W Hotel in Anzhero-Sudzhensk. 2006. PROXY reaches out to Tiga via his MySpace page. Thomas Von Party intercepts the message and is stunned by fully formed landmines like “Destroy”. Masquerading as Tiga, he signs PROXY to Turbo Recordings, beginning his own deceit-fueled ascent up the biz-ladder of the music ladder-business. 2007 to present. PROXY earns respect and awe from such heavyweights as Justice, Soulwax, Boys Noize, Erol Alkan and Mr. Oizo with astonishing, severe tracks like “Decoy”, “Dance in Dark” and the massive “Raven”, which merits special mention not just because of its ubiquity, but because it illustrates in full the singular power of PROXY MUSIC.
Recall, if you will, the first time you were ever caught in an explosion. Close enough to the blast that the only things that register are a light beyond blinding and a sound that arrives too soon. Now imagine that as you lose your body to the fire you are reassembled, better, your self subsumed by something far greater (for many, this experience seems to manifest itself as sitting in obedient unison). The sound now commands you, transmuting you into the screaming, searing blare. PROXY has also produced remixes for Peaches, Prodigy, Tiga, Boys Noize, Chromeo, Digitalism, Moby and a host of others willing to pay him in Kocmoc cigarettes. 2013 the second part of his debut opus 'Music from the east block Jungles is released. An ongoing tour has led us into mid 2014 with a debut release on Feed Me's 'Sotto Voce' Imprint with '10,000' to critical acclaim. The future is looking archaic.
