iEDM Radio Episode 144: Fox Stevenson
Sunday May 21, 2017
Sunday May 21, 2017
Bio
Unhindered by the constraints of a particular genre, Fox Stevenson pushes against imposed limitations.
Growing up in an artistic environment, with a musician, writer, and theater director for a father, Fox didn’t need much prodding to explore art from the inside-out. Laying down his tracks from scratch, he will also write and perform his own vocals. As a live musician, he is unafraid to pick up the guitar, drums, bass, or mix a live DJ set on stage.
The casual listener is immediately struck by the emotional pith and complex narrative structures of his songs. Most dance song lyrics are throwaway, but Fox’s tracks are genuine, space-creating oddities of a new generation. They are indebted to the old singer-songwriters of the past, while also challenging traditional expectations for beat-based, electronic music. In a world that often prefers we choose ‘one or the other’, Fox is one of the few willing to balance and create a free-flowing tri-force of dance, pop, and rock in his music.
A rare master of the live and digital, he is always experimenting and improving on his own structural artifices. “There is no best way,” he says, “that I would prefer to learn. When someone tries to tell me the ‘best’ way of compressing a snare, I prefer to learn it myself, because otherwise I would never try and go outside of that.” Keeping true to this spirit—to his own standards—he has been performing under the alias Fox Stevenson, reflecting his maturing growth as an artist, and culminating in the release of his first EP, Endless, with Firepower Records. Following his debut EP, Fox released songs on Spinnin’ Records, Circus Records, Firepower Records, and on his own record label Cloudhead Records. With six Beatport #1 Releases under his name, in 2016, Fox Stevenson partnered with powerful bass music taste-making label, Disciple, while continuing close ties with Spinnin’ Records for house/electro music.
Be on the lookout for Fox Stevenson as he gets his music out to a wider audience, ups the ante with world-tours, produces in more sophisticated studios, and hosts a plethora of collaborations with other artists—as he tries simply, in his own words, “to be better and better.”

iEDM Radio Episode 139: Flatdisk
Sunday Apr 16, 2017
Sunday Apr 16, 2017
Bio
At the forefront of the international dance music community after manifesting their skill in production and alluring the eyes of veteran talents, Italy’s powerhouse duo Flatdisk is capturing both attention and momentum at the speed of sound. The duo’s formation came to be through Axel and Leonardo meeting through a common friend, a relationship with a common fervor for DJing that naturally evolved into a partnership. While being in touch with music since childhood, Axel’s upbringing involved performing in various bands with experience in playing guitar, bass and drums, while Leonardo’s background stemmed from studying violin and piano in the conservatory. Before joining forces, Axel worked his way from waiting tables at this parents’ restaurant to working in the TV industry alongside Leonardo who supported his parents’ bathhouse as a lifeguard while in university.
From humble beginnings in Milan, Axel and Leonardo took it upon themselves to create a dynamic music group that echoes their flair of sound production and passion to perform outside of the studio. The duo has aimed high and released prominent tracks on Universal Music, Revealed Recordings, Armada Music, Sosumi Records, Mixmash Records, and Flamingo Records and has received direct support from the likes of Martin Garrix, Tiesto, Steve Angello,, David Guetta, Don Diablo, Nicky Romero & beyond. Alongside the support by industry heavyweights, Axel and Leonardo came out on top of Revealed Recordings’ Beatport remix competition as Hardwell and his dedicated label team handpicked the Italian artists as the overall winners. The dynamic duo also power “Flatbeats Radio,” their own distinguished radio show with curated music weekly. The duo tagged themselves “Flatdisk” to emphasize how circularity exists in both life and music, similar to how a vinyl, CD, a disk, a spaceship or galaxy is circular and consistently evolving. Accomplished producers as they are remixers, Axel and Leonardo are masters of their unique and edgy art of creating euphoric and hard-hitting tracks that steer towards an electro edge.

Their talent is based on a particular sound consisting of sexy house mixed with a progressive groove vibe, which has reached the attention of renowned artists such as Tiesto, Angello, Axwell and Morillo, just to name a few. Promise Land’s publications on Subliminal records, Spinnin records, Flamingo, Size have been granted extremely high levels in the world’s dj rankings. One of their biggest successes is the remix for Swedish House Mafia’s "Don't you worry child", loved by their fans all over the world.
Their tracks such as "Emotions", “Gangsta”, “Rulez” and “Bad Dj” build a solid, unique and supportive fan base.
With two tours in the States, as well as in Asia, Promise Land has taken part in several music festivals in Northern Europe, including Tomorrowland 2013, 2014 (V Session Stage). Some of their hottest tracks, to include “Vega”, “Burn“, “Why I still Love you” and “Memories will Fade” published with Spinnin, Size, Smash The House, MIxMash, Doorn and so on, have established them as one of the most admired Italian producers in the world, to the point where they have been the only Italian producers to play for the Creamfield festival last summer. The last couple of months have been priceless for Promise Land, with two successful tracks: “X-Press” (which was the most played track at Miami this year and still on top of the overall 1001tracklist chart), followed by “Skratchin” (already #1 in any sort of buzz chart and is among the most liked and supported tracks of the world). Promise Land is quickly becoming a world-wide name throughout the electronic music industry, being 100% made in Italy!

iEDM Radio Episode 134: Yves V
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
Sunday Mar 12, 2017
Bio
The enthusiasm that emanates from Belgian big-room artist Yves V continues to burn with the stellar magnitude of a supernova. His placing in the 2015 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs rankings marked him out as among the highest climbers, progressing on from his impressive debut position of 2014, as 2016 also saw Yves take a placing in the industry-famous poll for a third consecutive year.
Over the course of his career, Yves V has risen to international standing amongst his peers and global dance fans as a producer and DJ of high acclaim. Whilst his music now fills the playlists of the biggest DJs on the planet, gaining support from heavyweights including David Guetta, Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren and Radio 1’s Danny Howard and Pete Tong, Yves’s name can also be found listed on billings for some of the most prestigious parties in the world.
From the studio, his music is vacuum-packed and released on the dancefloor by every major artist from Tiësto and Martin Garrix, to Steve Angello and Nicky Romero. Whilst his remix work encompasses A-list artists with a hip-hop flavour, including putting his stamp on the releases of Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Ginuwine, all of this has led to Yves’ own productions being released on a plethora of the best record labels in modern dance music including Armin Van Buuren’s Armada, Chuckie’s Dirty Dutch, Spinnin’ and Doorn Records.
His remix of ‘Insane Pressure’ was the release that broke Yves into the consciousness of his peers, since then growing his productions from underground bangers into major Beatport hits that includes ‘King Cobra’ (with Don Diablo), Top 10 Beatport smash ‘Octagon’, huge-hitter ‘Indigo’ and Spinnin’ heater ‘Unbroken’, as well as long-awaited ID’s ‘Joker’, ‘Daylight’ and Winter 2016’s huge free Armada release ‘Condor’ which sent fans and peers alike into overdrive. All of these head up Yves’s release total to an impressive nine, strong tracks already this year, supporting that his studio and production output is just as prolific and prominent to rival his extensive laps of the global live circuit.

iEDM Radio Episode 132: Dannic
Sunday Mar 05, 2017
Sunday Mar 05, 2017
Bio
Dannic, the prodigious DJ and producer from Breda in the Netherlands – the hometown of Tiësto and Hardwell - is one of the fiercest acts to emerge from the latest generation of Dutch artists, cementing himself as a go-to name that delivers within the world of big-room, grooving house. Bursting onto the scene with a DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll placing 4 years in a row as of 2016, it’s confirmed to tastemakers that Dannic is a driving force within the scene. Dannic’s long-running stance behind the radio airwaves including his recently-rebranded Fonk Radio venture, also demonstrates a producer that is well and truly tapped into the most vital and important industry trends that appeal to his ever-expanding audience.
From his debut releases on world-class labels including Toolroom and a longstanding relationship with Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings, Dannic’s constant output of dance floor-ready bangers and groove-laden productions continues to excite across live shows globally, as well as productions that set alight the biggest mainstage sets. Seeing the Dannic sound grace the stages of Creamfields, Tomorrowland, Miami Music Week, plus many more alongside the launch of his own aforementioned, independent imprint - Fonk Recordings – Dannic has reflected his musical flair from every angle. From sourcing Demos, A&R’ing, design and production, the first release through Fonk Recordings (A collaboration between Dannic himself and HIIO titled ‘Funky Time’) was supported by industry stars Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Fedde Le Grand and W&W, as a swathe of Top 10 releases signified its status, with the label still only in its early stages, Fonk Recordings also recently hosted a sold-out showcase party of label family and friends during the Amsterdam Dance Event in October.
As over 350,000 music-lovers descended onto the city, all of these components proved the perfect catalyst to propel Dannic and the future of Fonk Recordings into its next exciting chapter. After a slew of impressive dates across Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, China and Singapore, Dannic also returned to Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa Ibiza, threw down sets at the World’s Largest Club Germany’s World Club Dome and played numerous, extensive North American headline dates. Dannic also performed a career stand-out set during the final ‘I Am Hardwell: United We Are’ show at Germany’s Hockenheim, marking the first show that DJs had ever performed at the racing track – but taking his sound to his fans live is one thing, immersing them wherever they are in the world is another. Launching Dannicated at the start of 2017 as a sleek fan portal, Dannic is giving devotees unprecedented access to high-class video content, track streaming and the latest and greatest news in his world, an ongoing project that will be adapted to meet modern and current trends, whilst also staying ahead of the curve. With his live performances gaining unmissable status, it is clear to see that his vast studio outputs appear just as prolific, making it undeniable that Dannic has moved beyond the tag of “one to watch”.
As his unrelenting schedule is interspersed with huge dates across the globe, his high-quality audio weaponry only adds another string to his bow including anthems ‘Viper’, ‘Golden Hearts’, ‘Feel Your Love’, ‘Light The Sky’ and his latest big-hitter on Maxximize with ‘Noise’, that also shot to #1 on the Beatport Big Room Chart; all of these factors creating a flawless cocktail as Dannic looks forward to a bigger and better 2017. Ready to champion Fonk Recordings and its talents no matter the artists’ experience or infancy, Dannic’s musical passion underpins his every move as a DJ for the people, weather this be his noteworthy peers passing praise or his millions of fans around the globe connecting both in the flesh and via a plethora of digital mediums, the scene waits with bated breath for the next move of this shining Breda producer…

iEDM Radio Episode 110: Curbi
Sunday Sep 25, 2016
Sunday Sep 25, 2016
BIO
As dance music tends to deliver younger bright stars every year, here's a prodigy the world surely will be talking about. 17-year old DJ/producer Curbi isn't even new to the game, he has already making tunes for a couple of years now.
For sure, he's the talk of the town, early 2015, after signing a deal with Spinnin' Records and MusicAllStars management at the tender age of sixteen. But the signs were all there; a young lad from Essex, UK, making music in his bedroom, breaking borders as he created a house sound of his own. After Dutch tastemaker Oliver Heldens got hold of his track 'Discharge', it didn't take long for Curbi to get signed to Heldens' home label Spinnin' Records.
The story is enchanting. 'Discharge' getting hundreds of thousands SoundCloud plays in mere days, getting picked up by the biggest DJs out there, remaining in the Top 10 of Beatport's main chart for 28 days (!) while the video is now counting over 2 million Youtube views and over 2.5 million SoundCloud plays. Not bad for a debut, the buzz around Curbi is only becoming larger by the day.
After releasing his first mixtape early June, which scored 125,000 plays within a week, his second single 'Rubber' comes out on Spinnin’ Records. And surely, this is a worthy follow-up, a gem for the clubs, including Curbi's characteristic raw bass lines, adding tension with some deep synth chords creeping up on you during the breakdown.
Pete Tong can't wait to premier it in his BBC radio show, while artists like Diplo, Oliver Heldens, Martin Solveig, David Guetta, Michael Calfan as well as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike give it full support. Genre crossing, you could say, which is exactly what Curbi does with his bass heavy house music - his sound hits a nerve everywhere.
Summer 2015 also sees Curbi make his DJ debut, playing at Martin Solveig's event My House in Pacha Ibiza - not bad for a show debut. After that, the young Brit sets on doing more performances, while also venturing into some collabs, releasing the exciting club tune 'Hoohah' together with fellow Brit Fox Stevenson (a track getting picked up by jocks like Hardwell, Diplo and Showtek), followed in October by the release of 'Butterfly Effect', a collab with Dutch duo Bougenvilla.
In short, Curbi is going through a rollercoaster ride in 2015, concluded with a personal 'thank you' to his fans when he releases the free downloadable 'Fraternité EP', including three full tracks by the youngster.
2016 sees Curbi continue living up to all the promises. His first release '51' already meets widespread DJ support (including Hardwell, Calvin Harris, Oliver Heldens, R3hab and Porter Robinson) before it's officially released, reaching #2 on Beatport's Electro House chart.
The follow-up to this, the mighty club tune 'Triple Six', Curbi's first release on Tiësto's label Musical Freedom, reaches the same height, getting support from the label boss as well as DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens, Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix.
May 2016 also sees Curbi play his first show in his home country, performing at the DOORN Records Label Night in London, while the young Brit also gears up to play key events across Europe in summer 2016, including Creamfields, Amnesia Ibiza, Myseryland and Parookaville.

iEDM Radio Episode 80: MountBlaq
Sunday Dec 27, 2015
Sunday Dec 27, 2015
MountBlaq has awakened. The music they formulate is made for mass crowds and real fanatics of the electronic music scene. Seeing videos of their jungle type tracks being played at festivals and big venues, shows that MountBlaq’s unique-powerful sounds feed the crowd an adrenaline rush to keep moving. A mixture of Big Room style, Jungle Room style, and Hardstyle, with a rapid progressive melody, unfolds a different experience from every song they produce. With the support of international grand DJ’s and record labels, MountBlaq is focused on what needs to be done.
MountBlaq is made up of two brothers raised in Naples, Florida, a town where the old go to retire and the young cause chaos. Producer Esteban David M., 23, spends his mornings working and his afternoons producing, making this his daily routine. As for DJ Luis Sebastian M., 21, he spends his free time mixing Big Room to Deep House, while putting heads together with his producer, creating their future.
The duo born in Quito, Ecuador, moved to the States at an early age for a better living. Browsing the Internet, they stumbled upon Eric Prydz and The Chemical Brothers. They heard and saw how dance music had evolved in this decade, giving them a good ear and their distinct sound. To this day they have dedicated their passion to music and will continue take the opportunity to embrace the gift they were given: the gift to allow people to lose themselves into a sound not gentle, but absurdly loud that will wake up the dead.

Highlights include performing at Mansion and LIV in Miami, Pacha in New York, XS in Las Vegas and multiple tours in Europe and Asia. A life-changing break came in 2009 when he released a remix of Cidinho & Doca’s ‘Rap Das Armas’, which became a worldwide summer anthem and notched over 10 million YouTube views. That same year Quintino released the singles ‘Heaven’ and ‘You Can’t Deny’ and made clear he will be around to stay as an artist as well.
When Afrojack initiated a team of aspiring DJs and producers for his imprint Wall Recordings in 2011, it didn’t take long for him to approach his long-time DJ friend Quintino for a musical collaboration. Afrojack and Quintino live up to their reputation as creators of crowd pleasing records with their first collaborative release; ‘Selecta’. Quickly followed by the second single, ‘Raider’ – both on Wall Recordings.
In between producing and releasing songs, Quintino keeps performing worldwide with an estimate of 250 gigs a year reaffirming many future successes for him.
